Acrylic Render

Acrylic render is a wet, thin-coat render which is available in various colours and is used as a decorative finish. This is a popular choice as it is long lasting, aesthetically pleasing and forms a strong protective barrier to normal weather conditions.

If you wish to paint your house a bright colour and are looking for a coloured render that can be mixed into any shade and give you a crack resistant finish, then through-coloured acrylic render is great as its much like acrylic paint, so it bonds to the colour pigment well and intensifies the colour to make it last longer.

Along with anything else there are some down sides to Acrylic rendering which are, it takes slightly longer to dry and cannot be applied in wet conditions and is a little bit less resistant to extreme weather conditions due to the fact that it doesn’t contain any silicone, so it doesn’t have some of the hydrophobic properties that silicone render has.

Silicone Render

Silicone rendering is a far more superior render and uses coloured renders and primers that are suited to lightweight systems to give you more of a smooth looking finish. They have self-cleaning properties, which means they are less prone to organic growth. Acrylic rendering does offer breath ability; however, it isn’t quite at the same level as silicone rendering.

This type of render is self-coloured and unlike other renders that must be painted after curing, silicone render has a colour mixed into it, meaning that it requires just one coat and the job is done. This also means that it will last longer and will not show if it is scratched as the colour runs through the whole of the top-coat.

Silicone Rendering is available in a variety of different colours, is easy to apply for a qualified professional like ourselves and can be done within just a few hours due to the thin-coat that is applied.

Sand & Cement Render

Traditional sand and cement render have a decorative topcoat which relies on a 2-coat application. This type of rendering if not applied correctly will often lead to water getting between the coats and causing one or both to fail. These are always grey in colour and require painting regularly to maintain their decorative finished off appearance.

However, they are used frequently as this type of render is very inexpensive due to the contents been cement, plasterer’s sand and lime. When Sand & Cement render is applied to relatively coarse surfaces such as bricks or blocks it allows for a textured sand-like finish or a painted sand-like finish on the exterior walls.

If you’re on a tight budget this type of render is an excellent choice, however it isn’t the best choice if you are wanting a smooth finished look and it isn’t waterproof which in turns can force it to crack over time.
